Pradhan Mantri Nai Manzil Yojana – to support minority students

Pradhan Mantri Nai Manzil Yojana: This Scheme designed to provide education, skill training to the minorities to make them employable and reach new heights.

Pradhan Mantri Nai Manzil Yojana: It is said that a little more than 20% of the India’s population is comprised of minorities having Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and jains and others in the order of largest numbers. And it is believed that the socially imposed disabilities have made them deprived of education, development and social empowerment over the years. And the appeasement politics have never stopped to involve in anything except gaining the most of the minority vote bank.

So, the governments of the past and present have been working on implementing a scheme designed to provide education, skill training to the minorities to make them employable and reach new heights in their lives. This scheme has been named “Nai Manzil Yoojana”.

What are the objectives of this scheme?

  • Providing the students dropped out of the schools belonging to the minority community with formal & vocational education and certification through open schooling systems of central and state levels
  • Providing the skill training to the youth deprived of job skills to make them more employable
  • Assist them in attaining jobs that provide them with at least minimum basic wages

Features of Pradhan Mantri Nai Manzil Yojana:

1Formal Education & Skill equipmentEnsures that minority students dropped out of schools are given formal & vocational education and job skills training to make them more employable
2Assist in getting placementsEnsures assistance in providing suitable jobs post completion of the job training skills
3Scheme’s tenureScheme will be implemented in phases over 5 years
4Main targetMinority youth being below poverty line in the age group 17-35 years having dropped out of schools
5CounselingYouth identified will be provided with needed counseling before final selection to decide upon the training and skill set
6DurationThe duration of the programme undertaken would be around 9 to 12 months having at least 3 months devoted to skill training. And this would be a non-residential integrated programme
7Bridge courseThrough the open schooling systems available, candidates will be offered the programs that are equivalent to 8th and 10th standard. If a student fails to clear the exam in his 1st attempt, his performance will be monitored and encouraged to take more attempts.
8Health & life skillsIn addition to the formal and vocational education, candidates will be provided a module on health & life skills
9SyllabusThe syllabus would be as per the Modular Employable Skills (MES) / Qualification Pack-National Occupational Standard (QP-NOS) compliant with National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)
10Post placement supportOnce placed, post placement support would be provided at least for 3 months through regular counseling
11TargetApproximately 1,00,000 candidates will be targeted and brought under this yojana
12StipendStipend will be paid to the candidates during the programme

Eligibility:

  • One should belong to a minority community as notified under National Commission for Minorities Act 1992 (Such as Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis).
  • Candidates belonging to some other minority communities as notified by respective state governments and union territories are also eligible. But only when they are not more than 5% of the total seats
  • Candidate should be of 17-35 years age
  • Candidate should belong to the below poverty line (BPL) population
  • Minimum educational qualification:
  • For Class – VIII:

One should have school leaving leaving certificate/self certificate stating that he/she has passed or failed in class V

  1. For Class – X:

Candidates should have passed class – VIII and submit school leaving/self certificate stating their eligibility to pursue the program

Seats reservation:

  • 30% of the total seats will be reserved for girls
  • 5% of the total seats will be reserved for candidates with disability belonging to the minority community
  • 15% of the total seats will be earmarked for candidates belonging to BPL families of non-minority communities
  • If the reserved seats remain vacant, they will be treated as unreserved

Stipend:

In order to encourage the candidates to participate in the program, financial support will be provided in the form of monthly stipend directly into the bank accounts based on the level of the training. Given below is the structure of the same:

Post placement stipend is paid only to those who are placed as per “Seekho aur kamao” scheme.
